Management of orphan drugs, compassionate use, and rare diseases

Under ANMAT regulation and approval, Grupo Lafken manages the import, supply, and distribution of compassionate-use medications and treatments, ensuring efficacy and safety throughout the process.

  • We hold licenses and authorizations from the Argentine Ministry of Health for the storage of approved medication, and are regularly audited accordingly.
  • We have the facilities, infrastructure, equipment, and resources needed to import, store, and distribute products through to their final destination.
  • We run a supplier qualification process to help guarantee the legitimacy and provenance of products, ensuring batch traceability.
  • We support our patients' treatments in pursuit of a better quality of life.
  • Legal guidance for patients and/or payers to access medication in a timely manner, including the corresponding filings with regulatory bodies.

Partnerships

We continue to lead the way in the management, administration, and access of orphan drugs, rare diseases, and compassionate use. To that end, we are finalizing our first alliances with international laboratories for the management and application of these treatments.

Logistics and commercialization

We make the complex simple in every shipment. We operate two major storage and distribution centers, in Quilmes (FarmaKD) and in the Barracas neighborhood of Buenos Aires (MetroKD).

Our mission is to deliver maximum agility and a service tailored to each client's needs.

  • Commercialization of high-cost medications through quotes, tenders, and contracts in the public, private, and social security sectors.
  • Management of patient registries for consolidated delivery of low-cost outpatient treatments.
  • Nationwide distribution and dispensing logistics operations.
  • Dispensing of treatments through our own pharmacies specialized in chronic-patient care.
  • Delivery coordination through direct contact with the patient.
  • 24/7 emergency service.
  • A traceability system that tracks a product's history, location, and path across the supply chain, making it possible to reconstruct its journey from origin to final destination.

Pharmacies

Laffarma, our own pharmacy network, covers Argentina's main population centers: CABA, Greater Buenos Aires, and Córdoba.

One of the things that makes our pharmacies unique is their integration with our storage and distribution centers, which guarantees:

  • Permanent stock.
  • Product delivery certified under the supervision of pharmacy professionals.
  • Full traceability of products, which are only ever picked up from our pharmacies — lowering our clients' costs on unused medication and making reallocation and operational optimization easier.
  • Safe and efficient assignment and dispensing of products to patients.
  • Preservation and strengthening of good storage practices for medical and/or pharmaceutical products, through purpose-built management software and applications.

What we offer:

  • Audit software. A system that logs each pharmacy's consumption across the network and produces a final report for health insurers, adding transparency and control to the process.
  • Formulary. Compliance with the Mandatory Medical Plan (PMO), covering molecules from both domestic and multinational laboratories.
  • Prescription validator. Our own system that validates medical prescriptions against the PMO and each insurer's requirements, ensuring effective pharmaceutical management.

Orionis Medical Center

Orionis is our medical center, a secure, state-of-the-art institution representing the highest standard in technical and biosafety procedures, fully compliant with current international standards and legal requirements.

There we provide care and treatment in the following specialties: oncology, onco-hematology, pediatric oncology, rheumatoid arthritis, hemophilia, and rare diseases.

Orionis has evolved into a Scientific Institute for Teaching and Research, staffed with highly qualified physicians who can either administer these treatments or audit them, depending on each institution's needs.

We also continue to grow by contracting oncology centers that operate under Apesa certification, always pushing to maximize the quality of our processes.

Audit

Apesa, our center for auditing and administration of special conditions.

In a fragmented healthcare system like Argentina's, science-based professional guidance helps steer cost-effective decision-making and push our providers toward better service, benefiting both patients and the payers who fund the system.

Our goal is to optimize the quality of care and achieve a rational allocation of available resources, always seeking to improve patient access. This requires understanding the epidemiological profile of the population's chronic conditions and matching the medication supply to actual needs, preventing both under- and over-provision of healthcare services and the waste of finite resources.

At Apesa we evaluate protocols and real-world evidence for prescribed treatments in order to:

  • Ensure legal coverage.
  • Select the right providers.
  • Carry out on-site audits.
  • Provision for coverage costs.
  • Monitor the service environment.
  • Reduce costs.
